| Festival Overview |
| Mission | To promote up and coming film makers and to make shorts accessible to the general public |
| History | In a stroke of marketing genius Tom Vogel who had produced a short film called "The Angry Penguin" thought of a great way to guarantee becoming a finalist in a film festival. He organised his own festival and in honour of his own first film called it "The Angry Film Festival". It was also the perfect name for film makers who were angry at the current australian film industry and had trouble with exposing their work. This was a chance for them to showcase their work!
After the buzz of producing the first festival Tom was addicted. The long hours had paid off with in excess of 100 people attending the first festival. The second festival ballooned to 200 and the third festival is expected to bring over 300 patrons.
Not only has the night become a great showcase for up and coming film makers to showcase their work but it is also a great time for actors, directors and producers to network.
The third festival will also be screening Tom's newest short film "The Good Samaritan" which was made in conjunction with Dunnylane Productions. The film was written, filmed on Mini DV and edited in the space of three days. Twelve other films will be screened on the night which will then be followed up with one of Melbourne's hottest DJ's. It will be held at 7pm on Thursday, 24th November 2005 at 141 Johnston St, Fitzroy at the Night Cat.
Another interesting fact is the festival website which is wholly created by Tom. Not knowing a thing about web design he bought a book and taught himself the intricacies of designing a website. The website is an ongoing project continually evolving. One of the interesting things about the website is the news section where it is hoped film makers can network. It is a free service where ads can be placed for crew and actors that are needed for film work. The website averages about 100 hits every three days at present.
Tom's hopes are to bring the festival to every state in Victoria. Film makers in Australia need to be supported with exposure as much as possible. Tom hopes that by making "The Angry Film Festival" an ongoing event it will nurture the creative talent that we have in this country. |
