| Festival Overview |
| Mission | http://www.snowyfest.com/ |
| History | SNOWYfest launched in June 2004 at Thredbo, Australia's premier alpine resort.
The 2004 festival offered two categories of competition for films in the "up to 30 minutes" timelength, both open and Thredbo-Snowy River region of NSW. In 2005 (and now 2006)the second category has expanded to include the Australian Capital Region, with cash prizes for Best Film and Runner Up in the open category, and Best Film and Runner up for the Australian Capital Region (where films must have some connection with that region to be eligible).
The success of the debut festival in 2004 carried over into 2005 with almost 200 entries received from Australia and overseas including France, the United Kingdom and the United States. Prize winners from previous years have gone on to win recognition around the world, including being nominated for shortlisting for Academy Awards, and winning categories in the prestigious "Slamdance Festival" in the US. The original Thredbo-Snowy River prize has now expanded to take on the Australian Capital Region, and cash prizes for the festival continue to exceed AU$4,000.
A small program of workshops was developed in 2005 and following excellent attendances and feedback, will continue in 2006 on a grander scale.
SNOWYfest enjoys the dedicated and generous support of the Thredbo community particularly Tourism Thredbo, The Thredbo Chamber of Commerce, Kosciuszko-Thredbo and festival host, the world-class Thredbo Alpine Hotel |
